I completed the 5K Ann Arbor Memory Walk today. It was a great event with teams and individuals of all ages participating. I was also pleasantly surprised that several local eldercare homes brought residents who participated with us. My biggest surprise, though, was the number of dogs on the walk. Who knew? I didn't get the memo. Everyone seemed to have a dog, and all of the dogs got Alzheimer's Association bandanas to wear. Being dog-less, I got a pedometer (not as much flair as a doggie bandanda).
The important thing is that I was able to contribute $250 thanks to support of many generous friends and family members, surpassing my $200 goal. It was inspring to see the number of people walking in honor of family members and friends, but also tragic that so many people have been affected by this disease. I personally want to thank everyone who has kept me and my family in your thoughts and prayers as we have dealt with the loss of my grandmother this summer, and everyone who has donated an supported my walk. Be ready for another call to help next year - I may even draft people for a team (and maybe we can have a dog too).
